ROOMBA 600 SERIES
The newer improved Roomba 600 is fantastic. It handles hair and dust with ease. It is definitely an upgrade from the grandfathered Roomba 500.
As robotic vacuums continue to improve with technology, the iRobot Roomba 600 is one vacuum that continues to be a popular despite the fact that newer models have been released by iRobot.
One of the best features about this robot vacuum is the same that can be said of most. It can be used to clean the hard to reach areas and basically any area imaginable. Never again will you have to move furniture simply to clean beneath it. For pet owners that are tired of having to sweep their floors three times a day, the iRobot Roomba 600 is one of the best tools in the fight to keep your home clean. It works directly alongside your baseboard, eliminating all the pet hair and dirt that usually remains when cleaning with an upright vacuum.
All Roomba robotic vacuum cleaners are very similar in looks and functionality. All of them have the same basic design: main brushes, side brush and a dirt bin (AeroVac). What differentiates them is the on-board computer which controls the robot’s behaviors, and determines the best combination of behaviors to get the job done efficiently.
Roomba 600 has made huge improvements in both its software and its vacuum system. Like other vacuums in the Roomba family, the 600 series uses iAdapt (see Robotic Vacuums). The iAdapt Navigation system determines the layout of the room more accurately which enables the vacuum to clean more effectively by implementing multiple floor passes. This assures that no area of the floor is untouched. iAdapt also allows Roomba to automatically dock itself. It returns to its charging base on its own and begins the recharge cycle to make ready for its next round of cleaning. The Virtual Wall feature (see Robotic Vacuums) is the part of the navigation system which constantly “talks” with Roomba. This communication keeps Roomba in the same room and helps it to dock at its charging base. Virtual wall is a valuable asset in the robot’s and something that the competition simply does not have.
Another feature of Roomba’s functionality is “Dirt Detect” (see Robotic Vacuums) patented technology. Roomba 600 uses Dirt Detect Series1 technology which consists of an acoustic sensor to help locate dirtier areas in your home and then spend more time cleaning them. These sensors have been refined over the years with the help of smarter software. All this allows the Roomba 600 series to be much more efficient.
Roomba 600 series also features “cliff sensors” to detect any vertical drops and thus preventing the Roomba from tumbling down a set of stairs or worse. It also incorporates anti-tangle technology which relies on its touch sensors. This anti-tangle feature stops Roomba’s brushes so that the Roomba is capable of escaping other traps.
There are two big improvements with the Roomba 600: a new AeroVac1 (see Robotic Vacuums) bin and its main brush design. AeroVac1 is a smart technology which optimizes airflow so the bin fills more evenly. Roomba’s powerful airflow extracts dirt from Roomba’s brushes using straight suction. It then efficiently fills the dust bin from back to front so the AeroVac bin fills more evenly and it does not have to be emptied that often.
The brush design is an upgrade from previous models. It improves the way the vacuum pulls hair from the main brushes. Roomba has two main brushes – a bristle brush and a beater brush, which looks much like a squeegee, and is specifically designed to pick up dust on bare floor. The main brush has bristles of different lengths which helps to reduce the risk of leaving hair and dirt behind and maybe even stuck on the brushes.. Less hair on the brushes means Roomba can clean for longer and more efficiently.
The improved brush design and optimized airflow (AeroVac1) provide better cleaning performance and reduced maintenance. The new Aerovac1 bin, improved head module, and advanced dirt detection are just a few of the strong points of the Roomba 600 series.
But a BIG step forward in Roomba functionality is on-board scheduling (see Robotic Vacuums) which was first introduced in the Roomba 650. The iRobot engineers enhanced an “ordinary” robotic cleaning machine with a high-tech feature to make our life easier. From now on you can pre-set Roomba to clean every day of the week at a time of your choosing.
The Roomba 600 has no problem in transitioning from one floor type to another It uses the same patented 3-Stage Cleaning System (see Robotic Vacuums) which includes agitation, brushes and suction. A spinning side brush cleans along wall edges as a counter-rotating brushes pick up dirt, dust, debris and pet hair from the floor. An efficient vacuum pulls dirt and hair off of Roomba’s brushes and into the bin.
Roomba’s 600 edge cleaning with a high-speed side spinning brush is perfection.
Roomba’s bin is larger than in previous models, so it doesn’t have to be emptied as frequently. It is much quieter than its competitors – noise is only 95 dB. It is efficient and powerful and is a reasonable size, given its cleaning power. This robotic vacuum is small, compact, light( weighs just under 8 lbs.) and portable, and it can be easily carried around from one room to another. It measures approximately 13 inches around and due to its low profile it just zooms under low furniture.
This machine is also easier to maintain and locate replacement parts for, which are not expensive. The 600 series are also upgradeable; you can install, for example HEPA filters if you want.
Roomba 600 runs on a single rechargeable lithium-ion battery, Battery Life is very long, and you will likely be able to clean your entire house with it on a single charge. The battery life of this vacuum is about two hours per full charge, which is right around the industry standard.
The Roomba 600 is good for use in almost any home and its adaptive navigation system incorporates more settings than its competitors. The advantage of this is that it can manage in crowded areas and on open floor plans equally.
It relies on it touch sensors to easily escape traps like a cable across the floor and it does not get stuck as often as its competitors.
Roomba’s control panel is really very simplistic. There is a hard to miss “CLEAN” button on top of the device. The other two main buttons on the robot are “DOCK” and “SPOT”. “DOCK” instructs the Roomba to go recharge itself while the “SPOT’ button orders a deep cleaning. By selecting “SPOT”, Roomba will only clean in the proximity of an area you have selected.
Roomba 600 also features audio voice demonstration.
Though the Roomba 600 series has been around for sometime now, it’s still reliable and very popular despite the fact that newer models have been released. The Roomba 600 series is a proven machine that can tackle all types of floors, all types of layouts and satisfy all your cleaning needs. It’s also much more affordable and does not sacrifice any of its technology. The core cleaning technology is still there. This is a household tool that you will really appreciate, and you will wish you had invested in the iRobot Roomba a long time ago.
The Roomba 620 is the basic model and was designed to pick up pet hair. Every dog should come with one of these.
iRobot Roomba 630 is also designed for Pets. Both contain all standard features of Roomba 600 series.
Roomba 650 is considered more of a higher end model within iRobot’s 600 series as it also includes on-board scheduling. The ability to automatically schedule cleaning is one of the key features separating the 650 from its predecessors.
Roomba 655 is the pet series sold by Costco only.
